“We’re Looking to You”
The midterms will take place in less than two months. Most reports give negative prospects for Republicans, the most conservative and God-honoring branch of our government, to maintain control of Congress. At this point, it looks like some sort of miracle will need to happen for this to occur.
Most Americans are not yet wise and discerning enough to vote for biblical values; they still primarily vote their pocketbooks. The determining factor is typically not about the long-term health of the nation but how circumstances affect them personally. America is changing, but we are not yet transformed in this regard. And the media, as we know, feeds the fears and misconceptions of the American people. They are corrupt and will do or say anything to hurt Trump and help the Left: slant, distort, fabricate, twist, and lie. And, of course, the politicians on the Left lie and distort the truth as well. These two groups work in tandem.
With all due respect to our President, who is working very hard to turn the tide in these elections, I don’t believe he is popular enough to do so. As I said, the election is more about people’s finances than about Trump’s overall policies and the long list of accomplishments he and Republicans have made. Without a solid anchor of truth, people change like the wind. Mooringless people are fickle people, ruled by feelings, comfort, pleasure, and personal desires.
No, Trump’s rallies alone won’t turn the tide. We need a miracle. How might that happen? I don’t know. But we don’t need to know in order to ask for it. Jehoshaphat said in 2 Chronicles 20:12, when the odds against Judah were overwhelming, “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” The Message Version says, “We don’t know what to do; we’re looking to You.”
Interpretation: “We need a miracle!”
Does the saving of America depend upon these midterm elections? No. But the outcome could certainly cause delays and even open the door to more curses and judgments in our land. Past policies and unrighteous leaders have opened the door to abortion, gender confusion among our children, homosexual marriage, antisemitism, Islamists who want to take over our nation, open borders, unbridled fraud, rigged elections, emboldened enemies, and more. Change is now occurring, and we don’t want setbacks in the progress being made.
Here are some guidelines for our prayers:
Persevere in your faith. Remember that persevering in prayer is not begging and pleading until God finally gives in or is motivated to do something. It is a partnership with Him. God’s hovering and saving power is released through His words, yes, but also in conjunction with our persevering faith and prayers…agreeing with His will and declaring it into the earth realm:
“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done!” (Matthew 6:10)
“I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And what you bind on earth will be bound in heaven” (Matthew 16:18-19)
“Fight the good fight of faith; lay hold…” (1 Timothy 6:12)
“You have not because you ask not…” (James 4:2)
Don’t pray politically motivated prayers. Though ideals and morality are now sharply divided along party lines in America, our allegiance is nevertheless not to Republicans or Democrats; it is to righteousness and the purposes of God.
Don’t pray selfish prayers. Although those in power influence our individual well-being, don’t let your motivation be personal comfort and happiness. Again, our desire should be rooted in righteousness and the purposes of God.
Don’t put your faith in a man. Do not place your hope in Trump. I appreciate his desire to save America, but he is human, fallible, and NOT America’s savior. And don’t place your hope in any other person to save us.
Don’t try to tell God how to do it. Just humble yourself before Him and ask for His intervention.
Let’s do our part and ask. We don’t have to know what event or strategy God will use. For Judah and Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20, God’s answer was simply a worship gathering. For Joshua at Jericho, it was marching around the city for several days, following God’s specific instructions, then blowing the shofar and shouting (Joshua 6). For Elijah, needing rain after three years of drought, it was fervent prayer, seven times (I Kings 18). For the blind man Jesus healed, it was clay made with spit from Jesus, rubbed in his eyes, then washed out in the pool of Siloam (John 9). Our God is creative and likes surprises.
We don’t need to know how the Lord might do this; we just need to ask Him for it.
Today’s Prayer and Decree:
Father, again today we ask You to involve Yourself in America’s upcoming midterm elections. We realize You aren’t political, but You are very governmental. It matters greatly to You who holds positions of power. We have allowed wicked people to rule our nation, and consequently, mourn the loss of our children to abortion, human trafficking, and drug-related deaths. We also mourn the extensive covenant-breaking, immorality, violence, and wickedness in our land.
But we believe the powerful leaven of Your Kingdom is spreading in our nation and throughout the world. Your Kingdom rule is good news. It brings freedom, fulfillment, and wholeness. Awaken the church to be Your voice in every arena of life. You have taught us to partner with You, and that You work through us. Therefore, we ask You to move upon the hearts of Christians in America to vote, and to vote for those who represent biblical values. Motivate leaders to be a voice of truth to those whom they influence.
We ask You to give wise, fruit-bearing strategies to those promoting righteous candidates. Give the candidates themselves wisdom and understanding. Expose candidates who promote evil. Cause them to make mistakes, and lose favor with voters. But most of all, we ask for Your miraculous intervention – we’re looking to You.
And we continue to pray regarding the Middle East. We declare Your words that Jesus has been given all the nations as His inheritance (Psalm 2); the earth is His and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24); the government of Your Kingdom is on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6), and all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him (Matthew 28:18). He defeated principalities and powers at the Cross (Colossians 2:15) and gave us authority to exercise that victory through His name (Matthew 16:18-19). We do so now, binding the spiritual powers of that region in Jesus’ name, and declaring that they have no right to further rule and control it.
Please give our leaders wisdom as they finish dismantling the ability of the Iranian regime to terrorize, and spread violent Islamist rule. Free the people of Iran, send a powerful outpouring of Holy Spirit, and make that region a beachhead for the gospel into all of the Middle East. Let this begin the billion-soul harvest. We pray this, too, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
