Stay the Course (and Vote Today!)
What a whirlwind of activity these past few weeks - for some of us, the past few years. Today’s “Election Day” results won’t end the efforts; truth will march on, as the old hymn states, and deception will continue, as well. The leftists in America are so controlled by their lust for power and their demonically inspired fulfillment of Psalm 2 that they now mirror this Psalm’s description of them:
“Earth-leaders push for position, Demagogues and delegates meet for summit talks, the God-deniers, the Messiah-defiers: ‘Let’s get free of God! Cast loose from Messiah!’” (Psalm 2:2-3 The Message)
When watching the arrogance and insanity of the Left, I sometimes think of Charles Dickens’ famous quote from the opening sentence of his 1859 historical novel, A Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”(1) The full sentence reads:
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”(2)
Over the past few decades, we have watched the radical left attempt to redefine America. This progressed to redefinitions of spirituality, right and wrong, and the family unit. It continued its demonic distortion of truth by attempting to redefine life, babies, male and female, and marriage. As Dickens so poignantly described in 1859, their insanity led to “foolishness…incredulity…darkness…despair.” Sin and arrogance against God always do. Their wages are “death,” according to Scripture (Romans 6:23).
Bible-believing Christians are under no delusion that the evil will stop. We just know that it won’t win. God’s grace will “much more abound” (Romans 5:20), and His Kingdom influence will continue to increase here on earth (Isaiah 9:7; Daniel 7:14).
Below is a clear indication of the progress we’ve made over the last few years. It’s President Trump’s Reformation Day Statement, this past Saturday, October 31. For believers, that day isn’t Halloween, when ghosts and goblins are celebrated, but it is Reformation Day, the beginning of the Great Reformation in 1517. It’s the anniversary of Martin Luther mailing his “Ninety-Five Theses” to the door of the Castle Church in Germany, which included a declaration that “The just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4; Romans 1:17). Luther contended that salvation was by grace, through faith in Christ’s sacrifice, not by works, and the world has never been the same. For the first time in history, a U.S. president released a statement honoring this day. Since it received so little attention, I’ll share the complete statement:
“From the earliest days of our Republic, prayer and faith in Almighty God have stood as the foundation of our strength, the source of our unity, and the fount of our greatness. This Reformation Day, I send my best wishes to the countless Christians across our country commemorating the Protestant Reformation and its enduring message of salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
“Five hundred years ago, William Tyndale – inspired by the work of Martin Luther -- advanced the Protestant Reformation’s devotion to Holy Scripture through the publication of the first New Testament printed in English, shaping the language of the Bibles that would fortify the faith and resolve of America’s founding generation. The Sacred Scriptures helped form the religious convictions that formed our young Nation’s founding ideals of God-given rights and individual liberty, a spiritual inheritance we honor as we continue to reflect on 250 glorious years of American Independence. The Bible remains a cornerstone of our Nation’s character and upholds our steadfast devotion to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
“Guided by an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, my Administration is working to restore the moral and religious foundations that have sustained our Republic for generations. As President, I will always support citizens of faith and defend their place in the public square, honoring the enduring role of our churches in strengthening families, serving communities, and preserving the core values that have anchored us across the centuries.
“As Christians across our country unite in faith and fellowship this Reformation Day, I send my heartfelt prayers for a meaningful celebration and encourage each of you to draw renewed strength from God’s Word as we carry forward the blessings of faith and freedom throughout our beloved Nation.”(3)
Let this statement encourage you today, Election Day. We have made great progress in turning our nation around. No wonder our president is so hated by the Left. While being accused of destroying our freedoms, he is actually restoring them. They hate the fact that his tenacious efforts have stalled and begun reversing their progress. We know, of course, that all progress has been fueled by prayer and a turning back to God. But He must find those through whom He can work. Thank you, President Trump.
Stay the course, and keep praying. Even today, as people vote, ask God to turn hearts toward righteousness and truth. And thank Him for what He has done.
Pray with me:
Father, as our Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, often quotes from John Quincy Adams, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.”(4) We are giving it our all to see this nation turn back to You, and we believe You are working to make those efforts fruitful. It is not by our might or power, but Yours. Our faith and obedience simply allow the partnership You want and require.
Today, again we ask for Your Spirit and angelic company to be present at polling locations throughout our country. Move upon the hearts of people to vote for truth and righteousness. Expose and stop all fraud. Give us leaders who honor You, the Constitution You inspired, and the freedoms You gave us.
And cause another Great Reformation to continue taking place in our nation and throughout the world. Bring forth the rule of Your Son, the declared King and Redeemer You spoke of in Psalm 2. We pledge our allegiance to Him forever, and declare that America will serve His purposes in our generation (Acts 13:36). And it’s in His name we pray, amen.
Our decree:
We declare that the redeeming and reforming power of the Lord Jesus Christ is at work in America and throughout the world.
