Is Hurricane Irma Another National Threat?

Yesterday we got the news that Puerto Rico and South Florida are possibly in the path of Category 4 Hurricane Irma. This hurricane is out in the Atlantic, but is moving swiftly to the west. Faith-filled ones, our eyes are going to be fixed firmly on the Lord and His promises to us. We will seek Him and intercede for this storm to dissipate out over the Atlantic. Puerto Ricans and Floridians, make preparations, but do not fall into fear. God will deliver you!

“And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; we are perishing.’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?’” (Matthew 8:23-27; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  1. Who will you believe – the Word of the Lord or the newscasters?

  2. God is able to still the storm. Declare Matthew 8:23-27 out loud and make sure you believe it.

  3. Rebuke the storm. Rebuke Irma and its wind and waves. Command it to fall apart safely in the midst of the ocean. You don’t even need to get loud. Just act on His Word.

  4. Pray against any panic among those reading the news reports. Pray that they will reach out to God and that Believers are ready to introduce them to the One that cares the most about them.

  5. Pray that the Church is ready to respond in love to those that are afraid.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I thank You for Your Word! I will devour it looking for truth and the way to know You and Your ways more fully. As I read Matthew 8:23-27, cause the words to come alive within me and change my thinking. (Read it out loud.) Taking hold of this truth, I rebuke Irma in the name of Jesus Christ. I command the storm to fizzle to nothing while it is still far from land. I command it to fall apart now, in Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit comfort the frightened through the love of Your Church in the areas the media said the storm could hit. I pray that many would find Jesus through our love. Amen.

Today’s decree:

Irma, be still!
