Covenant Roots – Jamestown

From the very early days of the first permanent settlement at Jamestown the core elements of Government, Ekklesia, and Family were laid into the foundation of what would become the United States of America.  In 1607, Captain John Smith, on the governing council, and Rev. Robert Hunt, the settlement pastor, co-labored in the establishing of the settlement at Jamestown. In 1619 the emphasis on family came to the forefront in Jamestown. That same year, the newly appointed Governor Yeardley called for the first representative legislative assembly. This was the beginning of representative government in what is now the United States of America. (Jacquie Tyre)

“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” (Luke 6:47-48; ESV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  1. Close your eyes and think about what a strong foundation looks like. The building you are sitting in likely has a strong, immovable foundation. Ponder the foundation of a new nation that Capt. John Smith and the Rev. Robert Hunt were laying.

  2. We are looking to repair the national foundation our forefathers laid. Pray for a strong family foundation, a strong Ekklesia (Church who spiritually legislates Kingdom principles in the earth), and a God-honoring government for our nation right now!

A prayer you can pray:

Father, with thanksgiving we remember the grace, strength, wisdom, and courage of our forefathers who followed the council of Your Word in laying a strong foundation based upon covenant truths of faith, family, and righteous government upon which our nation has been built. We appeal to You Sovereign Lord for forgiveness over our nation where we have forsaken the ancient paths and plead for mercy that the purposes for which You ordained this nation to be as a “city set upon a hill,” from whose shores “the Gospel shall go forth to not only this New World but the entire world.”  Lord, we declare that according to Your divine purposes, the restoration of Biblical Marriage, the engagement of Ekklesia in matters of life and peace, and the preservation of Representative Legislative Government be established in these United States of America for Your glory and the advancement of the Gospel of the Kingdom in Jesus name. Amen.

Today’s decree:

We re-lay the “God Foundations” of our nation today!
