The Path to America’s Recovery

The concept of debate was an important part of the founding and shaping of America, and was intended to play a significant role in the function of our government. Though debate can be challenging and does not always achieve the desired goal, hearing others' opinions and insights, then sharing our own, enables us to arrive at the highest level of wisdom. This is healthy and wise. No single person has all the needed wisdom for complex and uncharted situations. Church leaders in the book of Acts, like America’s Founders, modeled this spiritually in Acts 11 and 15, asking for Holy Spirit’s help and guidance as they did so. “It seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us…” was the outcome in Acts 15:28.

Wholesome and productive debate, however, works only when both sides share the same core convictions, ideals, and goals. When this is not the case, the process becomes contentious, divisive, and non-productive. America has now reached a point where the process fails most of the time.

It has almost become a cliché to say that “This is not your father’s Democratic Party.” And the leftward movement has not stopped. There is now even a significant foothold of socialism and Marxism in the party; to them, capitalism is abhorred. Some would actually say they are taking over the party. Also, many on the Left no longer want God’s guidance or biblical influence in our country. It is abundantly clear that many in the party hate the America we have been for 250 years and want us to be a fundamentally different nation. The process of debate for the Left of our day is not about finding wisdom or reaching a consensus, but about reaching a compromise that moves our society another step leftward.

They are now growing bolder and more determined, willing to do whatever it takes to reach their goals: add states to the nation, seats on the Supreme Court, illegals to the election process–anything to gain greater control and accomplish their goals.

One might be tempted to ask, “Why don’t they just go someplace else if they don’t like America?” Or for some who have arrived in our nation in just the past few years, such as Mandami or Omar, “Why did you come here if you don’t like it?”

Obviously, moving to another country is impractical for most of them, but there is another reason, especially for the leaders of the efforts to transform us. Their motivation goes beyond merely disliking America as it is. The U.S. stands in the way of the world order they prefer, and therefore, must be destroyed–or at least weakened and fundamentally changed–in order for them to attain their goals. The lower-level “echo-ers” of the philosophies–those holding their signs, blocking traffic, chanting mantras, singing silly songs–are simply ignorant and naive pawns in the game. Other pawns of the kings and queens are simply the lazy and entitled people who want to “level the playing field,” which, when translated, means they want everything given to them. (One of the goals of the Democratic Socialist Party is actually a 32-hour workweek! Some of us surpass that by Wednesday!!! Many in America today are unaware that the American Dream requires hard work.)

Regardless of how we got here, or the various motives of those who now despise America, satan has conducted a successful campaign to weaken, divide, and conquer America. So much so that our nation can no longer be restored and healed only by well-meaning and competent government officials in Washington, D.C. Nor can it be done by our educational system. Wise, competent, and honorable leaders are absolutely necessary, and many of them are doing admirable work. But God alone can heal a society that has become as sinful, weak, ignorant, ill-informed, and divided as America. Our condition can only be healed from the inside out.

When I contend, as I have for 30 years, that America’s only hope for survival is a Third Great Awakening, I am in good company. Ronald Reagan said, during an interview with journalist John Bass while he was preparing his run for the presidency against Jimmy Carter, “The time has come to turn to God and reassert our trust in Him for the healing of America–our country is in need of and ready for a spiritual renewal."(1)

When asserting that this great awakening is our only hope, I am not naïvely stating that Bible studies and church services will fix all of America’s problems. I am reminding us that America’s connection with God is her lifeline. I’m saying that a return to Him will bring a return to truth, morality, common sense, love, wisdom, and stability. Jesus said that building structures on the foundation of His words was the equivalent of building on a rock; not doing so was like building on sand - the structure will not survive (Matthew 7:24-27). The Psalmist told us, “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it” (Psalm 127:1). Benjamin Franklin quoted this verse as a warning when calling for prayer during the Continental Congress in 1787.(2) We would do well to remember it today.

As the praying church, the Ekklesia, continues to do her part to pray in this great awakening, God will do what only He can do. And as this heaven-sent great awakening unfolds, millions of people will receive transformed hearts and minds, and will want God's will and ways to be restored in America. Righteous government leaders will then be able to lead in ways that reconstitute strength and healing. This is the path to America’s recovery; it will lead us home.

There is no other.

Pray with me:

Father, we humans have been thinking we know more than You since Adam ate the forbidden fruit. And we Americans are prone to forgetting that it has only been with Your help and support that this nation has been so blessed. As Abraham Lincoln, one of our greatest presidents, stated many years ago:

“…we have forgotten [You]. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own."(2)

These words are as true today as they were then, perhaps more so. We repent of this pride and arrogance, and humbly come before You today, acknowledging our desperate need of You.

Please pour out Your Spirit on this nation once again. Rain down righteousness and cleansing fire. Save millions, fill them with Your breath, write Your words and laws in their hearts, and restore truth in our land. Cleanse our government, revive our churches, and heal our land. All this we pray in Yeshua’s name. Amen.

Our decree:

We are firmly anchored and sustained by the knowledge that grace and mercy triumph over judgment, and God’s life is stronger than death. America shall be saved!
