River At The Ranch

I attended Flashpoint’s River at the Ranch gathering in Texas on Friday night. What a night it was. It’s always a pleasure to minister with my brother, Tim, and Friday night was no exception. He brought fire as he shared what Holy Spirit has been speaking to him. I followed and rode his coattails.

Then Pastor Paul Brady from Oklahoma shared an incredibly powerful word from the Lord and led us in passionate intercession. The messages were as much impartation as they were revelation. I’m reminded of the Apostle Paul’s words to the church in Rome: “For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established” (Romans 1:11). Paul knew he had more than information for the Roman church; he had spiritual gifts to give them.

The people were expectant and in strong agreement, making the atmosphere conducive for Holy Spirit to accomplish whatever He desired. He responded with His presence, filling the atmosphere. The intensity of the river’s flow was swift and strong. I haven’t felt that level of intensity in years. When speaking, praying, and declaring, at times I felt like I would explode. The fire of God was present, inspiring strong decrees and declarations, and a deep level of the River of God flowed. There was also a deep spiritual travail that came upon the gathering. We were “birthing” that which the church has been “carrying.” Heaven’s will was being released on earth (Matthew 6:10).

I can say with great conviction that this gathering was – as I felt it would be – an announcement from heaven that the Third Great Awakening has indeed begun. And I can also say with confidence that these meetings added fuel to the fire.

The long spiritual “winter season” of barrenness and dormancy in America is coming to an end. The spring thaw has begun, and new life is budding. Ezekiel 47, where Ezekiel was given a vision of God’s River of Life flowing from the Temple, actually pictures this type of seasonal change.

The Hebrew word for “river” in the passage is nachal, and it does mean “a stream or river,” but not just any river. This word refers to “a winter torrent.”(1) This meaning of the word doesn’t refer to when the river flows, but what causes the river. Some streams and rivers dry up during certain parts of the year. They are refilled, however, when there is rain or, as in this case, the spring thaw melts the winter snow and ice on the mountains. Tiny rivulets develop, come together to form larger flows, then again forming streams, and eventually, becoming nachalim (rivers).(2) Though Ezekiel’s “winter river” began as a trickle in verse 1, it eventually became a mighty, unfordable river by verse 5.

Great outpourings of the Spirit are, in some ways, seasonal as well. And we are entering another season of revival and awakening. This has begun, and the river is rising. The warmth of spring and summer will do their work, and harvest season is coming. The river that releases resurrection life wherever it goes (Ezekiel 47:9) will flow at fullness, and we will drink of its healing and life-giving power.

It is rising, even now. Healing, salvation, and restoration flow within it. Keep your appeals strong – heaven is listening. Be encouraged!

Pray with me:

Father, though we have grieved over our broken nation, we know You are releasing Your river of healing. Yes, we have been in an icy winter. Without a doubt, there is no hope for America other than Your resurrection life. But You are merciful and do not abandon people or nations in their times of wandering. Your heart is always to redeem, and our hope is in Your grace and mercy that flows through Christ. And Your awakening river is rising.

Intensify the awakening! Bring Your warmth and thaw frozen hearts until the winter in America is over and the river of Your healing and life flows with full force.

Strengthen the intercessors. We owe them much. Keep them strong, hope-filled, and full of faith. Cause them to know how much You appreciate them. We draw on You for strength as we move forward, and will persevere in our prayers. We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our decree:

We decree that God’s life-giving river is rising. He will heal our land, and release salvation to the nations.
