God Wants to Hover Over America
When God shows up, He shows up in unusual ways. It is so much more than that soft sense of peace we experience where we might say, “Oh, I feel His Presence.” It is a powerful, weighty, hovering sense of God. The fear of God is often there. The holiness of God is felt. That is part of what causes people to run to the altars or fall on their knees in the street and get saved!
I am personally looking for an open heaven that doesn’t just open while we are worshipping in a service and then closes when we all go home. I want the kind of open heaven where the heavens stay open for weeks and months and years, until all of society is changed! We experienced this for 90 days in Colorado Springs in the summer of 2008. In Pensacola, FL, they experienced this for five years. I have been traveling around the country for a long time, and I have been watching and waiting for the next move to begin. I am always wondering who is going to contend for what God wants to do. He is waiting for somebody to believe Him and contend for what He has said! He’s saying, “Somebody believe for this, because I am ready to hover somewhere!” I think He wants to hover over all of America. He definitely wants to hover over many cities in this country.
The Bible talks about the hovering presence of God in four places. The Hebrew word used is a reproductive term meaning, “To bring forth.” It is first used in Genesis 1:2 where it says, “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” The Lord would say, “Let there be…!” Then the Holy Spirit in His hovering would use His glory and power to cause something new to spring forth, and He would create that thing.
The same word is used in the story of Abraham and Sarah when he was 100 and she was 90 years old. They were well past child-bearing age, but the Bible says that the Spirit of God hovered around them and their bodies were completely renewed. We know this, because it was after this that a king saw Sarah and wanted her for his wife. It was after this, when Sarah died, that Abraham married again and had 6 more kids.
These are examples of what God is wanting to do in this era! He wants to come and hover over our cities and nations. He wants to create some new things. He wants to completely change lives. He wants to completely restore cities. He wants to heal our land and relationships, and He wants to download solutions to our societal problems. We have to get the heavens open and welcome Him in, Church! Ask Him to come and hover over America!
“I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost; for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Corinthians 16:8-9; NASB)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
Pray in the Spirit until you sense His presence. Get in the habit of practicing this daily.
Believe you receive what you ask for when you ask with the right motives. Ask Him to open the heavens over your community.
Declare, “Lord, I believe You want to come and hover in my city and many other cities in this land. I believe You are saying, ‘I am ready to hover somewhere!’ Lord, come and hover here!”
Pray for the transformation of lives and society that comes with a prolonged hovering of God over an area.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, my Spirit is stirred at the thought of Your Holy Spirit hovering over my city and creating things here that are on Your heart. I will pray in the Spirit until I feel You hovering here. I do not want to run in and out of Your Presence. I want to abide with You! I believe that You respond to the heart cry full of faith that dares to believe Your Word. You want to come and hover over our cities and create the kind of move of God that the Apostle Paul saw in Ephesus. You want to create new things and restore old ones.
Lord, I believe You want to come and hover in my city and many other cities in this land. You want to hover over America. I believe You are saying, ‘I am ready to hover somewhere!’ Lord, come and hover here! Heal the sick, save the lost, and deliver the oppressed. Let so many sinners come to Jesus that jails close. Let leaders be unable to escape the pursuit of Your love for them. Let the heavens open and let Your love sweep over this land renewing everything it touches. Jesus, come and hover over America! Amen.
