The River Is Flowing in California
Introduction
Today’s post was written by our friend, Larry Sparks. It is an encouraging report about what is beginning on the West Coast.
I’ve been watching a prophecy from 1994 coming to pass before my very eyes… in the Pacific Northwest and California. This prophetic decree was released in the form of a song written by Martin Smith: “We can see that God, You’re moving… a mighty river through the nations.”(1)
We are now seeing what we’ve been singing for over 30 years. Time is catching up with the decree.
Since the Glory River conference hosted by Tim Sheets earlier this year, and by the sovereign leading of the Holy Spirit, I have repeatedly visited and ministered in California, Oregon, and Washington state. This is significant because of the prophetic word released over that territory: A Niagara Falls of glory moving through Oregon that would “wash Washington” and break open California for a landscape-changing move of God.
This is a report of encouragement. Every single time I have traveled to the West Coast, I have watched people experience different expressions of God’s Glory River. And it’s increasing.
How We Partner With a Prophetic Word
I take this Glory River West word seriously, and I believe we have a role to play when it comes to seeing prophetic words come to pass. God is in charge of the fulfillment, but He invites us into the process. His sovereignty is not intimidated by our participation. Two quick pointers for partnering with prophetic words:
First, when we receive prophetic words (like Glory River West), we must not receive them as spiritual entertainment; we should pray and ask, “Lord, how do I partner with You in seeing this word come to pass? What is my assignment?” For me, it’s been to go to these states, decree the release of Glory River West, and partner with local churches to create spaces for the Holy Spirit to move.
Second, I wait on the Lord to see what He wants to do: we don’t manufacture moves of God, nor do we stand around idle, hoping and wishing God is going to do it all. We wait, and we watch to see where the Spirit of God is moving, so we can move in that same direction.
Three Gatherings, One River
I was recently in Southern California for three gatherings. Each one was unique, but every time the Lord moved with power. In this season, we can’t be afraid of appearing awkward while waiting on direction from the Lord. My rule: He speaks and moves first, and then we respond.
First service, the Lord directed me to announce the revival history of Southern California, declare that California is part of the Acts 2:17 outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and then pray for a baptism of the Spirit and fire over those gathered. God came in with salvation and strong deliverance.
In the second gathering, we prayed for the church hosting us, the leaders, and the intercessors. I taught a message about God coming down (instead of Him wanting to evacuate us from the planet), and then, as I attempted to conclude Point 2 and move on to Point 3, the Lord had me pray for people to be born again. His glory river showed up to sweep people into the Kingdom. About 7 people came forward and were gloriously transformed by Jesus’ redeeming power.
Then, in the last meeting, right after worship, there was a clear sense that a river of healing was flowing. So we (team of leaders) prayed for the sick, with many indicating that they had been measurably healed by the presence and power of Jesus.
This is one example of God’s Glory River flowing on the West Coast of the United States. And I want us to come into agreement over the destiny of the West Coast and California. God finishes what He starts, as Philippians 1:6 says.
The Land of Movements
I love California. I also know it’s been hard and dark spiritually, but like Elijah’s servant in 1 Kings 18, we are receiving reports of a revival “cloud” the size of a man’s hand arising, a sign of the coming torrential outpouring of the Spirit.
California is a land rich with movements of God and revival in its soil, soil that has now been filled with the “dirt” of the Philistines (sin, demonic ideologies, corruption). But just like Isaac re-dug the wells of his father, Abraham, that had been filled in, I believe the Lord is raising up a burning church, an Ekklesia who will truly re-dig the wells of revival. It’s happening now.
Perhaps you live in California and are discouraged about the spiritual condition of your state. Maybe you watch California from afar and think the state is “beyond hope.” I am grateful our God is not intimidated or shaken by gross and deep darkness. The Lord is actually reminding us of the spiritual heritage of California, and provoking us to give thanks. Giving thanks calibrates our eyes to see what God has done, and recognize He is the God who finishes things. Let’s give some thanks now:
Lord, we thank You for the Azusa Street Revival of 1906 that changed times and seasons for the Earth, reintroducing the church to the power and move of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, today, half a billion Christians around the world claim a Spirit-filled experience.
We thank You for Aimee Semple McPherson pioneering the Foursquare Movement and the great explosion of Pentecost that was released from Angelus Temple.
We thank You for the Charismatic Renewal birthed out of Van Nuys, that brought a sweeping move of the Spirit impacting every denomination in the 1960’s.
Thank You, Lord, for the Jesus Revolution which exploded in Southern California, marked a generation, and touched the world.
Just as movements of God have been birthed in Southern California, we pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on a new generation that will pick up where previous generations left off.
What the River Brings
As His river flows, here is what I believe we will see:
“Swarms of living things will appear wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows.” (Ezekiel 47:9 NLT)
Healing in the River
As His river flows, we will witness supernatural, miraculous healings. Lord, may there be meetings where they are “all healed,” and territories are broken open for the Gospel.
Salvation in the River
His river is releasing salvation, and people will become convicted of their utter and absolute need for the redemptive work of Jesus — simply by experiencing the river of His presence. They will taste the very life-giving waters the world has failed to deliver—and call on the name of the Lord and be saved. I’ve seen it.
Deliverance and Freedom in the River
His river will bring deliverance. Freedom from torment. Liberation from demonic power.
Commissioning and Deployment in the River
And finally, His river will touch people to such a degree that they will become overshadowed and saturated by the Holy Spirit — releasing His presence and power into every sphere of influence, every world system, every arena of culture that has (for too long) been under the tyranny of satan — the river is going to bring healing to nations, to territories, to California, and that Glory River flows through you.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank You that You finish what You start. Thank You for the movements that have begun, and we thank You, Lord, for moving us towards the greatest outpouring of Your Spirit the Earth has ever seen. We recognize that California is part of Your “last days” prophecy. We ask according to Acts 2:17 that all flesh would experience the outpouring of the Spirit. And all flesh includes California! We celebrate every sign and expression of Your movement — even when it’s a cloud the size of a man’s hand.
When Elijah saw that small cloud, born of his prayers, he knew Your verdict had been rendered. He did not despise the small beginning (Zechariah 4:10), but declared his unwavering faith (1 Kings 18:44). We have seen the small cloud over America and elsewhere, and we, too, declare our faith that an abundance of spiritual rain is about to fall.
We pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our decree:
We decree that God’s Glory River is flowing on the West Coast and the wells of revival are reopening!
