Appealing to Heaven with the Secretary of War
As we begin this week, we have 5 weeks until the important midterms. I, along with other prayer leaders, am asking for a united thrust of intercession between now and then, asking for God’s grace and favor. Our great friends at Intercessors For America have prepared a thorough prayer guide we can all use, creating efficiency and agreement. I’m reading their points today as our post.
For today’s prayer, I’ll be reading the powerful prayer offered at the recent White House Governors Dinner by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. I give thanks to the Lord that we have godly men and women serving us in this administration!
IFA Midterm Prayer Guide
“God has most certainly been answering prayers for this nation through the current administration. Since then, we have witnessed rapid changes addressing many of the issues afflicting the soul of this nation. We have seen political prisoners set free, the defunding of harmful institutions, stronger protection of our borders, the arrest and deportation of dangerous criminals, and renewed protection for religious freedom. We have also seen President Trump and his administration openly praying to Jesus, along with many other blessings and answered prayers.
“As we look ahead, we must continue to pray that the midterm primaries and the November midterm elections result in godly leaders being elected, so that the plans that God has for this nation may be fully realized and not suddenly halted or reversed:
Pray that deceptive media and advertising tactics would fail miserably. (Ps. 21:11)
Pray that conservative messaging would be truthful, honorable, and compelling to the people—that it would be heard clearly and powerfully, and that truth would ultimately prevail. (Psalm 15:1–3)
Pray that God’s candidates get on the ballot. (Phil. 2:4)
Pray that radical candidates who oppose God’s will are seen for the true agenda they have and are not appealing to American voters. (Jer. 22:13)
Pray for massive voter turnout for the conservatives and that Christians overwhelm the voting polls and exercise their biblical citizenship. (Jer. 29:7)
Pray for honest elections, renouncing fraud and any infringement on free and fair elections. (1 Peter 2:13-14)
Pray that any attempt at fraud is exposed and thwarted prior to the close of election day/polls. (Luke 8:17)
Pray that only legitimate U.S. citizens vote in the elections. (Rom. 1:18)
Pray that the financial support for radical leftist organizations that promote evil and ungodly candidates and agendas would dry up and come to an end. (Prov. 13:22)
Pray that funding for godly candidates would be abundant. (Ps. 5:12)
Pray that pastors would boldly preach the full gospel, addressing the evils our nation faces and explaining how godly governmental leadership can help confront and restrain them. (1 Pet. 2:9)
Pray that pastors teach their congregations that it is vitally important that they vote and to vote from a Biblical worldview. (Deut. 1:13)
Pray that the church provides voter guides for their congregations. (Hosea 4:6)
Pray that churches would encourage faithful believers to run for public office and stand firmly beside them as they campaign and are elected to serve. (Acts 6:3)
Pray against running out of ballots, machine malfunctions, and any other interference that would prevent people from voting.
Pray for all election officials to count and register the votes accurately and honorably. (Deut. 10:17)
Pray against delays in counting of votes and for timely reporting of results. (Prov. 16:11)
Pray that only and all legitimate mail-in ballots are counted.
Pray for safety and security at every voting precinct. (Prov. 16:11)
Pray that every Christian would actively participate in the voting process by volunteering on campaigns, serving at voting precincts, acting as poll watchers, volunteering at phone banks and texting trees, funding candidates by donating, knocking on doors, and helping however they are able.
Pray that there is no violence or retaliation against any person(s) over the results, such as riots.
Pray that God’s will be done in this and every election. (Matt. 6:10)
Pray for wisdom and discernment for God’s choice of candidates. (Matt. 6:33)
Pray that the lethargy and complacency that have infected so many people be lifted, and that a new fire of passion for turning this nation back to God be lit in every heart and spirit. (Amos 6:1)
Pray for safety and protection for the candidates and their families. (Ps. 91:1-2)
Pray against any violence that may be attempted on candidates and their families. (2 Thes. 3: 3)
Pray that truthful information about all candidates would be readily available, enabling voters to arrive at the polls well informed and confident in their choices. (Prov. 2:6)
Pray that God would be glorified in our nation through our choice of leaders.”(1)
Pete Hegseth’s Prayer
Father, we thank You for believers like Pete Hegseth who boldly stand for You. We agree with his prayer today:
“Dear Heavenly Father, King Jesus, we come humbly before Your throne, praising You for all the providence You’ve bestowed upon this nation for over 250 years. From George Washington to President Trump, we have dedicated this nation as ‘One Nation Under God.’ And certainly ‘In God We Trust.’ And as we think back to 250 years ago, when George Washington, on bended knee in Valley Forge, appealed to heaven on behalf of his troops in this young nation, we’ve appealed to You from the beginning, and may we continue to appeal to You.
“And tonight we pray for our president, President Trump. Give him safety. Give him wisdom. Lord, we pray for our Vice President, our First Lady, our Second Lady, the cabinet members here, all the governors assembled here as well, our civil magistrates. Lord God, I ask that You give them the wisdom to see what is right and the courage to do it. Wisdom is defined as the fear of the Lord, the fear of the Lord being the source of all knowledge and wisdom. Lord God, Your eternal truths, may they rule.
“So this evening also, I would be remiss if I did not pray for our great troops, our men and women all around the globe, defending our great nation as they have for 250 years. Lord God, watch over them and protect them. It is in Your holy name, the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, that we pray. And we bless this food, too. Amen.”(2)
