The Importance of Selecting Righteous Leaders

The same standard by which we choose leaders in the Church, should be the standard by which we choose our government leaders. In the church it is called righteousness.  In the secular environment, it is called ethics. If we do not have leaders that adhere to a high standard and to the Constitution’s boundaries, they will find themselves governing a restless, untrusting people.

“But select from among you, brethren, seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.” (Acts 6:3; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  1. Commit to the Lord that you will seek Him for His choice of candidate in the national elections – individuals who will uphold the Constitution and will govern in a just and ethical manner. (“Righteous” in Proverbs 29:2 means “conforming to an ethical standard.”)

  2. Pray that the Lord prepares their heart to govern and grants them grace, as they will be pulled on by many people, special interest groups and spiritual forces. Even those with strength of character can sway under political pressure.

  3. Pray for Christians to get out and vote, even though choices may be hard! There are an estimated 90 million Christians in America. At least 13 million are not registered to vote and in 2012, 26 million Christians who were registered to vote, did not!1 Don’t be a statistic! You can learn how to register to vote here.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I commit to seek You for the person You can see can lead our nation in a righteous, ethical manner and uphold the Constitution upon which this nation is founded. I pray in advance that You would prepare their heart and grant them wisdom and great grace! I pray they will stand strong against the powers and influence that will try to manipulate the decisions they make. I pray for strong character that grows in strength daily and that they will seek You or learn to seek You for answers to hard decisions. God call Your sleeping Church to the polls. Help me to invite all of my friends to vote and make sure they know where to get information to do so. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Today’s decree:

The Church will rise up and pray for and elect leaders with strong moral fortitude who will support the Constitution and govern with grace and wisdom.
