A Boy Named Preston
“Here tonight is Preston Sharp, a 12-year-old boy from Redding, California, who noticed that veterans’ graves were not marked with flags on Veterans Day. He decided all by himself to change that and started a movement that has now placed 40,000 flags at the graves of our great heroes. Preston, a job well done. Young patriots, like Preston, teach all of us about our civic duty as Americans. And I met Preston a little while ago, and he is something very special — that I can tell you. Great future. Thank you very much for all you’ve done, Preston. Thank you very much. Preston’s reverence for those who have served our nation reminds us of why we salute our flag, why we put our hands on our hearts for the Pledge of Allegiance, and why we proudly stand for the National Anthem.” (President Donald J. Trump)1
“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” (Romans 12:10; NLT)
Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:
Read about Preston’s “Flags & Flowers for Vets” project here. Pray for Preston to be able to complete his project of honor. Pray that civic groups across the nation join him in his endeavor.
Thank the Lord for every veteran who has served in our military and selflessly fought for our freedom in some way.
Intercede for the veterans you know.
Preston “gets” patriotism. Ask God to grant revelation to those who do not understand why we revere those who have served us, why we pledge allegiance to our flag, why we place our hands over our hearts when we do, and why we stand for the National Anthem.
A prayer you can pray:
Father, what an amazing young man Preston Sharp is. Thank you for laying this desire on his heart. Thank you for giving him national honor for honoring our national heroes. Stir many hearts and civic groups across this great nation to join him in his work to place flags and flowers on the graves of those who have served us. May we make it a national habit for people to go out of their way to thank living veterans for their service. (Intercede for the veterans you know.) Grant revelation to all those who really don’t understand patriotism. In Jesus name, amen.
I decree, because of efforts like Preston Sharp’s, the nation’s veterans will feel honored and cared for!
