Pray for the Educational System in the Inner City

“It is obvious that our educational system is failing in the inner cities of America. In the scriptures, the Lord assures His disciples that we can do nothing without Him. Let me share a short story of a pastor whose life was changed while attending a school in the inner city as a child. He said and I quote, ‘I remember in 1963 we were allowed to pray every morning in my third-grade class. In fact, the entire class of third grade students in the public school district was taken on a field trip to see a movie called, King of Kings. This field trip gave me the first opportunity to experience the knowledge of God in living color. It has made a profound impact on my life for nearly 55 years.’ He went on to say, ‘But something happened the next year when I entered the fourth grade that changed the trajectory of our educational system. Our educational system concluded that we did not need to allow our students and their families the option of being educated with the knowledge of the God in whom we trust.’ He concludes, that by making this profound, but deadly, choice in the education system of America, ‘We deliberately chose to educate our children without Him.’ Just a thought for prayer.” (Rickie Bradshaw)1

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children; ….. you can do nothing without Me.” (Hosea 4:6; John 15:5; NKJV)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  1. Pray for Secretary of Education, Madam Secretary Betsy Devos, as she advises the President on federal policies, programs and activities related to education in inner cities of America.

  2. Pray that our students and their families in the inner city will have the opportunity to choose educational programs that will allow Christ-centered Biblical education as a subject matter.

  3. Pray for making education in America great again through school choice but not at the expense of neglecting the inner-city poor, who often have very few choices available.

  4. Pray for increased access to early educational programs prior to kindergarten for children.

  5. Pray that churches will play a major role in offering academic and character building enrichment programs to students in middle and high schools in the inner city. (Taken from “The Reconciled Church – Seven Bridges to Peace”)

A prayer you can pray:

Father, forgive this nation for deciding that we did not need You involved in the educational process of our children. Professing to be wise, we are now reaping the reality of our foolishness, especially in our inner-city schools. We need Christ-centered programs. We ask for compassionate choices for our students in the inner cities. May they not be left behind, Lord. With both parents working, or parents not able to provide healthy breakfasts, our inner-city students often need before and after-school programs. Show the school districts and the Church how to provide them. We know these students are loved by You and You are concerned about all that concerns them. Thank You for giving Betsy DeVos and her team godly solutions to our inner-city school needs. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today’s decree:

The compassion of Jesus will move to give our nation’s leaders answers for the education of our children, especially those in the greatest need—our inner city school children.
