Independence Day

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That, to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such Principles and organizing its Powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”1

“Let the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the peoples with uprightness and guide the nations on the earth. Selah.” (Psalm 67:4; NASB)

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

  1. The above is taken from the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. In just a few sentences it honors God, honors life, and honors equality of people. It explains government and tells us what to do if and when that government is not working anymore. Thank the Lord for forefathers who honored Him and gave us such a model.

  2. Pray for our current governmental leaders. Ask God to remove those that are not honoring Him or abiding by the principles above. Ask Him for leadership that does. Thank the Lord for His guidance of these leaders.

  3. Pray for the first sentence of the Declaration to be reality in the USA.

A prayer you can pray:

Father, I thank You for a founding document that honors You, honors life and honors the equality of people. I thank You for founders that looked to You for the words and justification to remove themselves from ungodly rule and to set up a nation out from under oppression. I lift our current governmental leaders to You (list as many by name as you can). Please lead them by Your sovereign guidance, Lord, or remove them and replace them with those that can live according to the above document. We worship You, Father. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Today’s decree:

We are one nation under God, meant to honor life and respect the equality of all men and women. We will accept no other model of government than a free Republic.
